MAYDAY 2013
Just finished a new poster for the fine folks at the Bike Messenger Emergency Fund.
As a cyclist of the 'dedicated commuter' variety, I think this is a great event for a just cause. Messengers are at the front line of urban cycling and far too many have fallen victim to the risks of their job. By supporting them and keeping them safe, we can all help to advance the cause of safe streets for cycling for all as well as just practices for our labour force.
If you're a cyclist or support social causes, i suggest you make a donation and come down to the event. As a society, we rise or fall together!

Illustrations for the LRC
Here are some of the highlights from a job that I recently completed for the Literary Review of Canada for their October issue. They were really awesome folks to work with, and the variety of material was challenging and interesting. Id like to go back and expand on some of these themes later on. For a full set of illustrations and some context for the images, pick up the issue here.

The Queen
Here's a peek at a 12 block lino cut narrative based on the Anias Nin short story of the same name. This is set to be part of a compilation of erotic fiction titled "Boom, Boom, Boom". Looking to have it bound and ready later this year - more news to come.

Orion Books
Here's a look at a series of Illustrations I'm creating for my friend Christian Cameron's books. The maps at the heart of these images were created by my friend Steve Stanford.
Christian's books are written in the genre of historical fiction, drawing on loads of scholarly information to reconstruct the ancient world for his readers. I try hard to recreate that feeling in the border designs, drawing on sources like Greek vases to furnish me with direction and details for my illustrations.
I don't have the final title for the newest Illustration (titled 'Gauls and Greeks' for the time being) but the other Illustrations featured here are for the books 'Marathon' and 'God of War'. There's more to come soon!

Animated Illustration - Consumation of Grief
A short project I put together this winter for a class on animated illustration. The short is compiled from drawings using Adobe After Effects. There is so much more to learn about the program, but despite the limits of the film it feels good to get back into animating. Check out the full thing on vimeo

Cavalcade Group Show and Publication
'Cavalcade' was a collaborative mural that we worked on at Xpace gallery over the last winter. For the project, a team of 9 illustrators came together to create a continuous mural spanning 100 feet of wall space. The initial stage had each artist isolated to their particular part of the mural. Following the initial installation and opening we expanded, bridged and overlapped our neighbors murals and completed the project with three dimensional elements.
The whole thing was a ton of work, but the closing reception was a blast and it was well worth the effort in the end - I cant thank my collaborators and Xpace gallery enough for making this project possible.
Check out the dedicated Cavalcade page for more pictures and details of the project
